DH was putting a study desk together last night but then realised he screwed the wrong pieces together. Tried very hard to unscrew but in the end, the screw head is now worn out. Any tips can help us unscrew these?

pair of pliers to grip and turn

Yes pliers will do that, luckily you have some length to play with.

also try a different size of screwdriver, sometimes a size 1 will do it where a 2 won't. I have been known to use the end of a knife or scissor blade as well but do mind your fingers.

Or blu tack in the hole first.

drill it out is the normal remedy - but careful doing that with chipboard furniture.

lesson for next time; use the right cross head screwdriver. There are two kinds and varying sizes. As he's discovered, he's now made a lot more work for himself.
