is this a reasonable quote for new windows

Hi

We've had this quote for aluminium windows and door in our new extension but I'm not sure whether it's reasonable and was looking for some advice"

Back door and attached window frame, £1547.00

Bifold window, £5575.00- this isn't full length but is 2.75 x 1.47m

I think it's on the expensive side but they can be made up in 2 weeks and are guaranteed for 20 years so we may be paying for this.

Any advice or thoughts?

Have you got alternative quotes? It's fatal to accept the first one. Prices vary tremendously. If you even tell them you are looking at others the price will suddenly drop.

The guarantee is worthless unless backed by an independent insurance policy. Will the company be around in 20 years, or even 5?

KissMyFatArse · 18/06/2015 22:28

Expensive from my experience.

TheSkiingGardener · 18/06/2015 22:30

That seems rather high but it really does depend. Get quotes from a local independent firm, a local large firm and, just for a laugh, from someone like Zenith or Apple.

Bridgeandbow · 18/06/2015 22:32

That seem expensive. We are paying
£12k for a sliding door (rather than bifold) that is 2.7x6m and a separate fixed window that is 2.7x1.8m

HelenF350 · 18/06/2015 22:50

Seems expensive to me.

EvaBee · 19/06/2015 01:55

The bi-fold seems very expensive. We had top of the range German made triple glazed, 5 metre wide patio doors for less than that.

I think I'd be looking at other companies.

Mercedes · 19/06/2015 06:30

That's what I thought too! I was just very tempted by the 2 week turnaround.

PS We used Kloeber and have been pleased with their service and after service.

Sallyingforth · 19/06/2015 12:08

That's not unusual Mercedes. Other firms will match it.
They will use all sorts of dodges to stop you getting other quotes:

"we can do it quickly if you sign up right now"
"I can only hold this price for 24 hours"
"I'll ring my boss - he'll agree to a 5% discount if you sign right now" (In fact the opposite is true - if you hold off from signing they will come back with a lower quote)
