Kitchens without drawers - how do you store cutlery etc?

We're having our kitchen built atm and the guy said he can make drawers but there is only a small space, and I'm not sure if it's worth it - the only things I store in them are cutlery, and things like birthday candles and odd bits and bobs.

Wondering if I can manage without any?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Our house has no kitchen drawers until I can afford to get the kitchen revamped. You get used to it, although it's very far from ideal. I have a single shelf in a cupboard which has to carry all the table cutlery in a tray, spare keys, tea towels and most of the large cooking utensils. It's a nightmare to keep organised. I also have a stack of gadget manuals on top of the fridge as there's nowhere else to keep them.

If you can possibly find space for a small set of drawers I'd do it without thinking.

All my units in the last kitchen were drawers...and my next kitchen will be the same. If they are all cupboards how do you see what is in the back?

You could get a dishwasher style cutlery holder to hold all your cutlery upright, or do what some pubs do and put your cutlery into pint glasses or jugs in the cupboard to keep them off the work surfaces, otherwise you'll get a lot of clutter.

P.S. The single shelf in a cupboard was raided from a skip when the neighbours had their kitchen done. That's how annoying the lack of organised drawer space is...

I've got an accessible kitchen do the plugs are all wear draws would be. I use cutlery holders for cutlery or jugs for other kitchen utensils. You can manage without

I'd like a drawer or two but it's a bit trickier to incorporate in this kitchen, which is very tiny and cramped, and will take him a while to build the drawers - he's building the whole thing from wood.

I think I'd like the utensils I use a lot on display anyway as it's easier - and cutlery might look nice in some sort of upright container.

TBH we mostly wash it and put it to drain and use it straight from there

I am very happy with cupboards with a shelf in, for larger stuff like trays and pans.

I think I've decided just to ask him to build us one set of drawers, on top of each other, and the rest can be doors.

I bought a decorative set of 4 wooden drawers from TK Maxx, it sits on the worktop and holds all the cutlery and odds and ends. I use the top to keep some pretty storage tins on.

I use a magnetic knife holder for bigger utensils. Ikea do very versatile wall storage that hold cutlery.

I use a 50cm cupboard and have put 3 shelves in it. There is a cutlery tray on each shelf...one for cutlery, another for knives and utensils, another for the utensils/things I don't use much.

In a previous kitchen I bought an ikea wire mesh drawer system with 4 drawers...and it fitted in perfectly. I think it was for putting into one of their wardrobe systems.

...and plenty of room on the [50cm] shelves beside the cutlery trays for foil, clingfilm, kitchen roll, a tidy pile of tea towels and other bits.

I have a series of snazzy mugs and jugs and pots which contain all my cutlery and utensils - one for spoons, one for knives, one for forks and so on....it's great, I know exactly where everything is.

My son uses pot flowerpots. The ones which are wider at the top. Seems to work well.
