Anyone know what Elstree's like?

Hello! I posted this in Chat but no response so I thought I'd try here I hope this is the right section - have never posted in this bit of MN before!

We are thinking about moving to Elstree. I won't be looking at schools local to there as the dc are already in schools they can carry on with from Elstree. It's a good location from the point of view of work, and I like the idea of being near London. Travel links seem good - M1 and A1M going north. Anyone live there? Any thoughts on it as somewhere to live? Thanks

Sorry just re read post! Schools are good but travel links are good too depending on where you need to get too....traffic in morning like anywhere but you can get thamselink direct to kings x

Do you mean actual Elstree (the area around the traffic lights) or Elstree (the part of borehamwood on the other side if the train line). I would suggest they possibly have quite a different feel.

The house I'm interested in is in Elstree 'village', not Borehamwood. I don't really know the area, to be honest. The other day I drove from Elstree to Radlett passing Borehamwood on the way. It's quite a mixed area, it seems. But lovely and green and really close to Central London.

We lived in borehamwood for a while and felt it catered for all our needs. Good enough local shops, nice restaurants in radlet and not far from Watford and St. Albans for better shopping. Thameslink is useful for commuting as it runs later than other train lines because of the airports it connects. I don't know much about Elstree, like you say Elstree village has a whole mixture of housing which I guess would lead to a good feeling. The Elstree part of borehamwood (around deacons hill road) is all expensive housing and may have a different community feel. One warning is the traffic around the Elstree traffic lights is very bad in rush hour and would need to be factored into a commute!

Thanks Becky. What's Aldenham park like? And has anyone stayed / eaten at the Laura Ashley hotel? I drove past it the other day and didn't even realise that there was such thing as a Laura Ashley hotel!

Aldenham park is good, lovely walks, animal park, hundred acre wood with winnie the pooh, pony riding and camping.
