Dear wise Mumsnetters,

I'm planning a bathroom renovation and have fallen in love with the look of this Neptune unit. It costs a pretty penny(1670 pounds!) so I would like to make sure it's right. Reading some comments on Mumsnet and reviews on John Lewis about Neptune furniture has cast some doubts on the quality of the Neptune build and finish. Please chime in with your experiences or if you know of any good carpenters/joiners who can build a unit like this ? TIA!

Most good joiners can replicate it for you.

Neptune stuff is mass produced in China and shipped over. The quality isn't what it was when they first started but the prices haven't changed to reflect that. Does £1670 include the marble top or just the base unit?

I had my heart set on a similar one

Our builder copied the design and we bought a piece of marble for the top.
It's painted F&B Pavilion Grey and looks amazing.
Definitely ask a local carpenter to quote.

Did that work out much cheaper? I was looking at the same unit as the op plus a really similar one from porter vanities that someone on here linked to but by the time I had priced the marble with cut out and a joiner to do the unit it was hardly worth it. I did trek to Battersea to see the porter ones. They are a fortune but lovely and looked/felt better quality than the Neptune furniture I have seen in the flesh.

TBF ours probably isn't as good quality as the Fired Earth ones but was a fraction of the price (parts of a big renovation so I don't know the exact figure).
We went to a Stone Masons for our kitchen worktop and chose offcuts from their yard for the bathrooms.

Thank you for all your replies. The unit in the Neptune showroom looked good but online reviews of poor paint finish and dodgy door catches etc has put me off a little. I too thought that a bespoke commission from a joiner might end up nearly the same price. Any recommendations for cheap and good joiners in the London area? :)
