Help with kitchen colour scheme

I have inherited a kitchen that's fine but not to my taste. Won't be replacing for a good few years so am trying to give it s makeover.

Problem is black granite worktops which I hate but have to coordinate with.

Am going to repaint walls paint cabinets and tile.
I love white metro tiles but worried it will be too stark wit the black granite was also thinking white cabinets but again same issue. Now thinking French gray maybe for the units then what colour walls/ tiles?

North facing kitchen black range cooker wood floor Edwardian house. Only lie cupboards.
Help mumsnet colour gurus!

Ha, well that's a tiny photo re. getting a sense of the room itself, and the light etc. but yes, I sympathise about the black worktop. Bit of a drag having such a dominant feature to deal with.

I think grey would be depressing with the sharp black. If you want a neutral, I'd go for a stone colour, like little green Portland stone.

If it were me I'd paint the cupboards Brighton Green and add some soft green metro tiles and hide the worktop as much as possible with nice worktop savers from Joseph Joseph or very large bamboo chopping boards!

Sounds like you are lumbered with black, so how about going for a slightly 30's feel, with varying shades of fresh and minty greens, white, and some big shiny mirrors!

Thanks Walnut I will have a look at those colours. ( and try to post a bigger photo once I have managed to wash up!)

Any one else got any other suggestions?

Thanks

Farrow & Ball have a colour chart that you can get free of charge. Should give you some inspiration for when choosing a new colour. www.farrow-ball.com/colour%20card/free-colour-card/farrow-ball/fcp-product/700011

would do cupboards off white and walls terracotta....

MairzyDoats · 04/06/2015 06:29

I'd do ivory cupboards and soft grey metro tiles myself. I sympathise though, that's virtually identical to my kitchen and I loathe it!!

Dulux gooseberry fool 4 paint for walls. Google it and you'll find an awesome kitchen blog called WITWIM. Put colour into Google, click images and it's usually one of the first images. They have wooden work tops but the paint colour, cream metro tiles (topps tiles cream metro are off white rather than full on cream) and a grey or light grey grout would work I think.

Oh, and paint cupboards off white too. Would look lovely.
