Does anyone use really old gas appliances in their kitchen?

Hi
I have a new house. It has a lovely 1940s cooker, which apparently the previous owner used every day.
Is it possible to get these serviced and tested for safety, or will it just be condemned by default? I'd quite like to do it, personally, so long as it won't blow the house up.

Mine is only 1990s, but it raises eyebrows! Apparently they are known as granny cookers. Getting parts is not always easy, but in general there's not much to go wrong on gas cookers so if you like it, try to find a service engineer who doesn't think you're bonkers is sympathetic.
