Are voiles naff and if so what do I do?

We're doing a loft conversion bedroom with big French doors. It will be rather overlooked (albeit at a distance) by some flats so we need some sort of 'modesty option' on the window.

We've not bothered with 'privacy' coverings in the rest of the house, so I simply haven't engaged with what you do. Apparently the local curtain shop was very cutting to my husband about voiles :)

What do I use? Sheer roller blinds or something else? I'd like something easy to open so we can see the garden most of the time but I don't want to flash the neighbours.

The window will also have long curtains with blackout linings (it is south facing so will need shading in summer).

Didn't know voiles are considered naff... We've got one on our large floor to ceiling window that looks out onto the street. Well it certainly looks more modern than net. Wouldn't want anything else as I like to be able to see out!

You could try venetian blinds to deflect the sun and provide a bit of privacy (if angled correctly).

Most of the hotels I have stayed in have curtains and also voiles on a track that you can open and close. Laura Ashley have been going for that double layered look lately so it can't be that way out.

We have voiles but made into roman blinds- maybe something like that could work? No idea if it's more trendy that way, but we like it!

Thank you! I will have a look at all options this weekend and then just order. You know when you have refurb confusion/fatigue? I honestly don't trust my judgement at the moment.

Voiles at French doors are lovely.
