Front door coming into the lounge - problem when kids are older?

Our front door leads directly into our lounge. The stairs then go from the lounge to the upstairs. At the moment as dc are young this isn't a problem but I keep thinking what will happen when they are older. It basically means they always have to go through the lounge to go upstairs to their room. What I'm worried about is when they start bringing friends round in the evening and Dh and I will be sat in the lounge in our pjs.

So my question is, do you think this is a legitimate worry? Does that happen in your house? We could put a partition wall up and make a corridor but we will lose some of our lounge area and the room won't be so light and airy.

Thanks

I really wouldn't worry.
