We are Thinking of buying around wood green / bounds green and I'm just looking for some tips and reassurance. We are looking to buy on a street which means we won't get our DC into any of the 'good' schools so I'm hoping the not so good ones aren't terrible.
Earlham and Trinity are nearest. I'm also confused about secondary schools. Which are the good ones etc. Does it look like things are changing? Is it a friendly area etc
Any insider info appreciated.

We live in southgate where there are lots of very good schools. My understanding is secondary's have a bigger catchment so you don't necessarily need one on your doorstep.

Personally I'm not a fan of Wood Green, but Bounds Green is a different matter and I feel safe there. Don't know if either are "up and coming" but I certainly don't think you'll lose money. Have a look on the haringey website to see if there is anything planned for your area. At the same time if might direct you to more schools.

Yes certainly not up and coming but I guess anywhere in London is a good investment.

If you are in Bounds Green look to see if you are in the catchment area of Alexandre Park School. Oversubscribed and outstanding but Bounds Green is in their catchment area. Think you need to be 1km away but look at their criteria.

Yes I would say Bounds Green or Bowes Park over and above Wood Green.

Re school a friend of mine doing teacher training did a 2 week stint at Bowes Primary School and she was very impressed, I don't know how well it does as I only know about Muswell Hill schools but I would say its worth a look.

I know lots at APS all very happy.

Earlham is not amazing, def check it out beforehand. I live in the area and everyone I know with earlham as their nearest goes for Alexandra. It's very nice and was our second choice. Lordship Lane and Belmont are lovely schools. Different vibe to earlham.

I used to live in Wood Green and never felt unsafe. Don't know about schools though. What's your budget? Palmers Green/ bits of Winchmore Hill/Soutgate might be worth considering, bif further out but nicest

Yes Alexandra palace school is secondary

So far all schools I've visited are nice. Earlham has a hard job as it serves an area with a lot of temporary housing so lots of pupil turnover etc. I would love to get her into bounds green/ bowes park but catchment areas are tiny this year.

Southgate /winch hill nice too but we were hoping to stay within the 406. God knows why!

Have you visited trinity yet? You might be pleasantly surprised. We are sending our kids there starting in September. We were very impressed and put it down as first choice. It's still undersubscribed (so smaller class sizes!) but I think it's only a matter of time.

We disn't visit earlham so can't comment on that.

We live ally pally/Wood Green and I like being so close to green space. Bounds Green is trapped between the North circ and Bounds Green road.

There are also two good church schools and alexandra primary at primary level. Unusual to have so much choice in London. We were in catchment for at least 4 schools!

Being outside the 406 is not a bad thing, lots of parks, more space,still good transport.
From Southgate tube you can be in Oxford St in 30 mins...

I have visited trinity and yes I was pleasantly surprised. I would be more than happy to send my daughter there. In spite if the ofsted.
Also the nursery is full time which isn't always the case.

Tottenhall is also a very good school.

That's great, glad you liked it. Not sure what went on with ofsted - it seems much more than a good school to me and the results last year were as good as Bounds Green and campsbourne (if that counts for anything!)

Good luck with the house purchase.

The whole area has been on the up since we moved here a few years ago. We've got a couple of nice coffee shops, organic veg shop, new pub, play groups etc

I have always felt safe here - it's also very friendly with a good sense of community locally. Plenty of people stick around for a while.

Wood green has a great bookshop that organises a ton of things. Google 'big green bookshop'.
