Glass splashbacks or tiles?

I was originally going to go for tiles as have found some really cool and funky ones that I like. But then I thought that glass looks really sleek and is probably far easier to maintain and keep clean. And probably far easier to fit too.

If you were getting a new kitchen now what would you go for?

We have a big glass splashback which I love. Ours is clear glass as that wall is our feature wall and painted bright orange.

You can get glass in all different colours too.

Yes i've been looking at a smoked colour glass to go with our grey gloss units.

Lots of cool people will be along in a sec to tell you that glass splashbacks are already dated. I adore ours (turquoise). I don't know many other people who have them. More expensive than tiles but worth it imo.

We've had tiles for ten yrs and am about to change to glass splash back.
Fancied a complete change. Don't care if it's not cool, it's still in the kitchen brochures!

Looking for a slightly sleeker look. No tiles. probably about to completely cock up it will be fabulous

Another one with a glass spashback - mine is orange on a white wall - and I love it.
But then I hate tiles!

I prefer tiles Glass is dated but only in terms of 'design trends' which don't matter if you love something! I have to say though in my work I am seeing lots of glass in skips! My tiler says he has never been so busy

Okay, from an aesthetic point of view, i think i prefer the quirkiness of the tiles. These are what i'm looking at..

A mixture of the white all along the worktop and round the window. Then the black behind the range cooker going up to the extractor. Or the splashbacks?

I have both, but I hate when people say something is dated, I don't give a damn as long as I love it and everything is either dated or soon to be dated or on the verge of being cool again.

I like those tiles but am imagining cleaning the grease/splashes/oops kids chucked ketchup up the wall opening the bottle out of those indents!!

(not mentioning the time I pulled the cork out of my red wine and splashed it ALL up the wall, no sir....)

We're in the process of getting our kitchen re-done and I think we're going to go glass splash-back. Love the idea of not having any grout to get grubby...but I do like the look of tiles so could yet change my mind.

Sorry, but those rectangular tiles just make me think of old fashioned public lavatories.

I'm on my phone so haven't got the link to hand but I have found a company that will print any design or photo you want onto a glass splash back.

I have a abstract picture I took of a tree, which I am planning to use for my new kitchen. I think it will provide the interest and quirkiness of tiles but also the sleekness and easy care of glass.

I have a glass splash back just behind the hob. I love it as much now 5 years later as I did in the beginning. I hate hate hate cleaning grout behind a splash back. I don't eat meat, for dh a meal's not a meal without it! - and meaty greasy grout is revolting. With the glass, it's so simple to clean.

Love my glass splashback One of the best decisions we made in our kitchen was getting rid of all the tiles. I rarely have to clean it and I love the way it adds light into the kitchen. Can't believe people are going back to tiles tbh!!

I don't think they are going back but they are taking them out of new kitchens in houses they have bought. It's just a personal taste thing. People should get what they love

That's true, noddy! And glass just wouldn't suit the style of some houses/kitchens.

Does glass cost more than tiles? we are planning a fairly large kitchen 6m x 5m and would like glass splashback all round the back wall, not sure if the price will be extortionate?!

I don't think it's so much the glass that's overly expensive but the cut outs for sockets etc - at least that's what I'm finding!
Owe are going with Quartz behind the range & a smaller Quartz upstand all around although I still love the look of glass.

Also love my glass splashback and upstand all around the kitchen. It was expensive but so easy to clean and adds light and sleekness to the kitchen.

Maybe it is dated now, (only three years old!), but I don't care.

We went for a nice purple glass splashback with granite work tops and upstands. So no tiles or grout to get mucky.
