Further to my earlier thread, have you done this? Lowered bedroom ceilings to give more space for a loft conversion?
How high were the downstairs ceilings before? How much did you lower the ceilings by? Did it make a big difference to the feel of the rooms?
Did you move out and move all your furniture out during the process?
Any problems during or afterwards?
