Advice on Window bars requested

We recently moved into a property that has the kind of windows which open horizontally, ie not sash windows which open vertically. This was fine in the winter, however our DS is now able to, and likes, climbing up onto the window sills inside the bedrooms. He has also started playing with the window catches etc and I'm a bit scared of unlocking and opening them in case he does this when I'm not in the room and falls out of the window.

We went to our local B&Q to find some bars to put across the windows, however we were told we had to go to an ironmongers to have them specially made. Before we go to this expense I thought I'd ask if anyone else has had this kind of dilemma before and if so, how did you rectify this ?

Thanks.

Perhaps a restrictor.

are they plastic?

hinged casements, or sliding?

is it rented or your own?

Would any of these help?

I've put a couple of these www.amazon.co.uk/Bary-Safety-Window-Restrictor/dp/B00CTQ1LD8/ref=sr_1_10?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1428956488&sr=1-10&keywords=window+restrictor
on some of my windows.
Easy to fit, although I swapped the anti tamper screws for normal screws.
