Fixing an Ikea malm bed....

Hi all,

I have an ikea malm bed where the slats fall through the base. I have tried some of the advice on here but think the best idea might be to put a board of wood where the slats should be, resting on the metal bits at the side?

Can anyone advise on the type of wood, thickness etc? I need something fairly light, but strong enough to support the light single mattress and person, and not too flexible?

Any suggestions on the best place to purchase would be fab too.

If you use flat wood you may find you get mildew on your mattress ?!

We had this on another ikea bed. DH used a bit of 2x1 to create a joist to tie the two sides together. was fine after that. I think its a common Malm problem.

We've put a piece of dowelling between the two sets of slats. That keeps them closer to the sides of the bed.

We only have one set of slats because it's a single rather than double.

I used a few sticky cupboard hooks to hold the slats in place on my other half's malm bed. I expected it it last about a day, but it still seems to be working 2 years later....
