We will be moving in the next month to a smaller property. I am looking for any tips and advice from anyone who has moved from a larger furnished property to a smaller unfurnished property with regard to what to put in storage and what to take and any other practical advice about moving into rented accommodation. TIA.

No advice on the moving to rented thing, but we have downsided several times. Top tip: be brutal and just get rid of stuff! Really question whether you need to keep something - if not, bin it. Storage is expensive and you'll probably discover you don't even think about/miss all the stuff you're paying ££ to store.

Also, digitising your life helps. Scan important docs and only keep originals you have to (passports, birth certs, etc). Then file everything digitally using a service like Evernote. Make digital copies of CDs, store on iTunes and sell the discs (or at least take out of cases and store in plastic sleeves). General 'decluttering' tips like that might mean you avoid having to get rid of anything of real sentimental value.

Furniture: do simple sums. Depending how long you're in rented, it might be cheaper to sell and re-buy later than to store. Def don't pay to store eg Ikea stuff...

Vacuum bags!
Expedit/kallax are great for storage in a small house. The wicker baskets are lovely too.
