Bookshelves above cupboards - no alcove

Rejigging the living room and decided we wanted a run of shelves along a soon-to-be free wall, about 2.2m. Obviously thinking about Billy Grin - then realised it made more sense for our insane amount of crap storage needs to have cupboards at the base and shelves above. I thought this would be easy but I all I can find are built-ins to alcoves or Ikea hacks involving Billy balanced on top of cabinets and, well, we are not that handy (although very skilled at following flatpack instructions).

Apparently Billy used to come with this option but no longer. Is there an option out there that isn't a)too difficult for the DIY challenged or b)getting the whole thing bespoke at high cost? Ideally budget under £400 - am I asking too much?

Aren't there doors that you can add to Billy?

BadPoet · 07/04/2015 11:10

If there are I haven't found them Penny - but then I do find the website a bit unhelpful. I will take another look, thanks!

Search for oxberg on the IKEA website.

You could look at Besta - you can have storage for the base with cupboards/drawers and then open units with shelves for above. But, they (Ikea) are currently updating their website on this range so it's quite difficult to work out what's what atm.

Oh thanks all! Oxberg, fab, I thought they just came in glass. And SwedishEdith that makes sense, I think they much be doing that with quite a few ranges - e.g. I have a tab open with Hemnes bookcases in grey but when dh searched he couldn't find them. Would explain why searches keep throwing up different things! I will look at Argos too noddy - thank you.
