Advice buying in Mapperley Nottingham

Name changed for this.

I've found a house I like in Mapperley, however don't know much about the area at all. We've been looking for houses for a while, and looked at this one on reccommendation from a friend who lives there.

Can anyone give me advice re what it's like as an area to live in? The house is just on the edge of Mapperley (I think), off Porchester rd.

I know the area pretty well and it has some absolutely lovely housing stock. V close to doctors, a dentist, library & only one bus change to the city centre.

Mum loves the lidl - v large & car park. You need to drive for Tesco/ Sainsburys but a huge Asda past the Forest Rec ground & an outdoor gym in the Rec itself as well as usual playground. It's a great family area and pretty central.

Hi. Yes I know Mapperley very well, lovely area. Am assuming you mean Mapperley end of Porchester Rd, off Woodborough Rd? Which side of Porchester Rd will you be moving to? Makes a bit of a difference, the side opposite the old hospital is Mapperley and the other side leads towards St Anns, which is quite different in feel. One other thing to check is whether you will be in city or county, but that can be checked easily enough- Most of Mapperley is in the county, in Gedling. The area is handy for the shops at Mapperley top, which has lovely cafes, pubs, a coop, Sainsburys, butchers, bakers, greengrocers and a library. It is a great family area and feels safe, have had no problems with crime or anti social behaviour, which is not the case in other areas!

My sister has just moved from near there to near there and she loves the area. They lived in their old house for 5 years and have just upgraded to a family home

As harasgmc says I'd make sure that you aren't in St Anns. Otherwise Mapperley is a nice enough area, easy to get into city centre, some shops though you'd probably need to drive for a supermarket etc, hilly

Gozogozo that sounds like you've described Sherwood to me not Mapperley.

Thanks everyone, you've made me feel much better!
It's Kenrick road, the Mapperley side of Porchester. It is in the Gedling area when I check the postcode. It's just that when you look on a map, it looks very close to St Anns and Thorneywood, but I know that doesn't mean much in real life. Just needed reassurance!
It does look like a lovelty area

Sorry Blush Cyprus Rd Mapperley Park, & have described usual runs for Mum & us with kids when there. Still think it's a fab place for a familySmile

harasgmc · 07/04/2015 11:31

Hi yes, Mapperley Park is city, different area, but nice! Kendrick Rd is a nice road, bit further from the shops at Mapperley top. It is quite hilly so you will get fit if you walk!

I have friends on Roseleigh avenue which is next road down. It's a reasonably flat walk to the shops at mapperley top from there.

A young family friend has been offered a teaching job in Porchester. Is this a decent area to work in?
Thank you
