red or mustard to go with teal?

I am planning to redecorate my sitting room very soon Hmm. It currently has a teal chimney breast, which I love, and the walls are white. I want to keep the chimney breast as is, but am toying with what to do with the walls. I had been planning a mustard colour, and have several accessories on this theme already, so I know it does 'go'. However, a visiting friend commented that testers I had up looked like baby poo, and I now can't get this out of my mind...

I have always wanted a 'red room', and now h is stbx this could be my chance - but will I be regretting it in a few months? Anyone got a red reception room and loving it?

How dark is the teal? I can't visualise it with red, I'm afraid.

Mustard. Ignore your friend.

It is dark teal - my phone won't co-operate with uploading photos, but it is dark - and does look good with red ornaments near it. Hmm, maybe I just want a red room and to hell with the teal...

Is is a big high ceiling room? I would say having 2 such striking colours might be a bit much? I would stay within the yellow pallet but tone it down a bit? Or want about a very soft grey?

Just to be contrary...I have teal with some red accents against it and it looks great - I wasn't too sure in theory, but the accents are rather big & expensive so I wasn't going to replace them till I had to, and I'm in no hurry now. Others have commented about how well it works too.

Coral (as a softer alternative to red) is combined with teal a lot. If you google it or look it up on Pinterest there are loads of examples.
