How does this work with movers then?

Moving this week, buying and selling. Got movers comig to pack on weds, and then move on Thursday.

On the day of the move is like to have an hour maybe in the new house before the removal men turn up and start bringing stuff in. We need to remove a small built in unit before the bedroom stuff comes in and I'd like to vacuum the carpets thoroughly and wipe down the woodwork, plus we probably need to work out where some of the bigger pieces of furniture are going to go.

Is this normal? Or will the removal men want to crack straight on asap?

Will the removal men likely be all packed up and gone for lunch or whatever before we get the call to say it's all done? Or do they hang around and then go straight there?

You can never tell. The last but one time we moved we arrived to find the p o effectively flinging stuff into a transit. It was v awkward and our removalists were also pretty unhappy! Our packing at our end also took longer than expected but fortunately our buyers were coming from rented and not planning to arrive until after work so we got away with that one!!

Our removalists said that you can specify in the contract that you want your seller to use professional removalists to avoid that situation but you might be too late now.

I think you are a bit optimistic booking your shopping for 5 as you never know whether you will be in and ready, sometimes completion gets delayed until very late due to bank problems etc.

Also i highly doubt you will have time to get in and clean or remove furniture before the removalists start. Once they arrive they go seriously fast and it's hard to make sure they are even putting things in the right room, I certainly wouldn't want to be distracted with something else while they are there as once they've gone you have no recourse to say you wanted certain boxes in one room not another. Our last move they were v accommodating and moved some big furniture in and out of different rooms before they left as id changed my mind Shock but we had been super organised and all went to plan so they were ahead of schedule anyway. It was also a corporate move so for all I know they were paid extra to stay longer but we gave them a decent tip anyway!!!!

I am completing tomorrow. My packers worked 9-3pm and packed what I consider 70% of the house. They left 4 beds and 3 sofas to sleep on as I am having 3 members of family visiting. We just went to restaurant today and I checked once how they were getting along.
They are coming tomorrow at 8:30am and finish packing/get ready for moving.
One thing came as a surprise that they don't move paint as it is hazardous (even the water paint!). They will pack it in boxes but I have to take in my car. I find it a bit of a pain! I would like to recycle it not sure if a regular recycling centre would accept it! So where do I put it?

After last time I wouldn't move out and in on the same day again - we were moving in through the back as they moved out the front. No opportunity to clean.
Yes they should have been out before we got the keys, but often that doesn't happen. Even if it does you may get the keys late (supposed to be 12 but arrived at 3 on the house before). Removal men know this can happen.

Admittedly my removal men were great and got everything in that night, and made all the beds, so everyone had somewhere to sleep. Just as well as the next day we had heavy snow.

Moved today. Surrounded by boxes. Confused

The completion document you sign at your solicitors will give the time. 2pm is common as it allows the money to move. But not everyone apparently reads what they sign and hence knows when they should be done by. Worth double checking maybe ?

Well it's move day today and half of my house is already on a lorry!
