We've viewed some amazing houses on the Bromley/Downham borders. But beyond the front door isn't the most lovely bit of outer London. Can anyone tell me the good things about living there? Or would you not recommend it?

I would not recommend Downham. How close to Bromley are the houses you have viewed?

I live on the Bromley side of Downham and although it's not where I'd win if I won the lottery I think people underestimate it. There's lots of parks and spaces and there are good schools (Rangefield in particular). It's convinient to travel into London for work (I go to Grove Park) and Bromley is really accessible and good for shopping.

Thanks, WSOP. The house we liked best was near the Millwall ground.

I don't know that side very well but it's near Beckenham Place Park which is lovely.

We live quite near Downham and its not the nicest area but I think if you've found a house you like then go for it.

Their are plenty of positive things, it has a handy if somewhat shabby high street, it's close to Bromley which has all the amenities and shopping you might need and it's near Beckenham which has more of a village feel to it.

Also you are close to lots of green space and good transport links. I would move there, especially the side you are thinking of as its nearer to Beckenham/Bromley.

Good luck whatever you decide.
