Confused about carpets

I need to carpet bedrooms, hallway and landing in a holiday cottage and want a Berber loop in some kind of light brown/dark beige.

However I'm confused about what material is best - wool, polypropylene or a mix. Everything I read contradicts each other. What should I go for?

Well I like wool but have a real horror of moths. I have wool in the lounge but a mixture for stairs and bedroom. I think you need to look at the recommended use for the carpets you like and take it from there.

Wool polypropylene mix is harder wearing than wool alone, good for high traffic areas. Polypropylene carpets are supposed to be very easy to clean but can flatten quite a bit.

Yes - it's looking good. We have a different pattern but it's the same range and colour. You can save money by buying your own underlay on line. It's where Carpetright make a massive profit with huge mark ups. We also bought gripperods online when we needed them from here

For rental properties a decent man made loop is ideal, look at Gala, made by Balta, Bleach cleanable, very hard wearing, looks pretty good, won't get moth damage and reasonably priced. I would suggest the action back on a firm underlay, rather than the felt back option. Do not be talked into having felt backed carpet fitted on an underlay, not what it was designed for, and won't last as long. I've not looked at Carpetfright links, I know they sell it under their own name, (as they do most of their carpets, the only way they can offer their "sale" prices)
Most small independents should be able to offer you, a better price and service than the bigger chains.

Carpet shop are very keen on 100% polyprop for mucky pups (which DH is, he's always spilling drinks) because you can bleach it. This would probably make it very useful for a holiday cottage, especially in a relatively pale colour.

We're probably going to get 80/20 twist though just because I prefer it. If he makes indelible stains I'll just LTB

I'd heard that it's much cheaper to get the underlay and gripperods elsewhere. Will carpetright then fit it? Or will we need to source another fitter?

We've told them we're supplying our own and the fitters have just fitted everything. The carpet fitters are subcontractors. Personally I would put polypropylene carpet in other than in low traffic areas because of it flattening, so only in bedrooms.

A wool loop pile carpet will bobble like a wool jumper, a polyprop berber will not flatten, although a cheap polyprop twist would. Nordic Berber you are looking at in CR is made by Associated Weavers and is called Island Weave, you will find it cheaper if you look around, but its pretty rubbish really.
You should be able to negotiate a decent "all in" price without having to buy everything separately, one source, one place to go back to if anything fails.
Just because cr inflate the price of accessories doesn't mean other retailers will.

Twrch62 you sound like you know about carpets. You say the Nordic Berber is "pretty rubbish really" - what should I be looking for? I don't mind paying up to 15-10 per m2 but I don't know what I should be looking for that tells me whether it's quality IYSWIM.

You won't go far wrong with Gala hessian back as I mentioned above, you should be able to get it for around £10-12per sq mtr, and is widely available, use a firm 9mm u/lay, Floorwise Tread is decent and a reasonable price, The softer underlays feel nicer underfoot, but the carpet won't wear as well.
I would expect you to easily get 10-15 years wear from this, Ash brown 82 is the most popular colour, if you google it you should find it easily enough and get some idea of the look of it.
