can I have a stripy carpet the wrong way on the landing?

or will it look crap? Seen a carpet I love for the landing but it will cost twiice as much to get the strpes going along the landing as it would to get the stripes going across. Is it really a big deal? I just cant picture it. Stairs are wooden and painted if that helps.

I understand what you mean. I can't see why it would look silky, it's your house you decide. Ask for a sample to check

Going sideways would make your landing look wider too. I don't think it would look silly at all.
