French doors.... Which to choose?

We'd like to go from one set of sliding patio doors and a window to two sets of French doors.

But the openings are too wide so we'd need a panel of some sort.

Would it look OK to have two doors and one panel? Mirror imaged across back? Or do we have to have two panels to make them symmetrical?

Two panels would make access less convenient from house to garden but would be possible.

Have attached pics of back of house and possible options. Openings are both 240cm.

Pics are from when we'd just bought it so excuse the mess!

Could you do bi-folds, or wouldn't that work?

Marmitelover55 · 25/03/2015 18:06

I was going to suggest bifolds as well as these work well with 3 panes.

Would go for the four panels of those you've suggested. But would investigate bi-folds. How bright is the back of your house? Amount lost by window / door frame might matter?

South facing. Incredibly bright.

Think bifolds would be much more expensive? Want something simple - fed up with current doors and worrying they're about to break.

How wide is the aperture?

Tutt · 25/03/2015 19:54

The 4 will look lovely.
Bi-folds are also lovely BUT unless you buy really good quality (fittings etc) they can be a right pain and a pain!

Fourarmsv2 · 25/03/2015 21:24

They're both 240cm. The doors will be 180cm so 60 cm to play with.

So it would be 60:90:90 or 30:90:90:30. Once you take out the frame there wouldn't be much glass in the 30cm.
