WTF Zoopla?!?!

TeddyBee · 24/03/2015 23:11

I quite like tracking the houses on my street on zoopla - it's ten identical houses that have been extended and modified differently. I also pay attention to our house value as we need to remortgage soon. I updated the info quite recently because we did a big old extension. Anyway, neighbours did a teensy extension over their garage and gained an extra bedroom and their value shot up to forty grand more than ours (which I think is a bit high anyway) so I sent them an email pointing this out, and mentioning that our house was actually bigger anyway. This was last weekend. I go to look today and they've knocked £100k off their valuation of my house. Which is kind of irritating as they haven't changed their valuation of my neighbour's house AND lazy ass mortgage company surveyors use those same valuations when they value for remortgages. Fuckers. Is this someone's idea of a joke? Ok it's deffs not the end of the world and I'm overreacting a lot, but I've spent eighteen months in a building nightmare and they're dissing my house.

Am I understanding this correctly? You sent them an email about the valuation of their house and pointed out that yours is bigger? How on earth were you expecting them to respond to it? Confused
Do you think you might have got a bit obsessed with other people's houses?

CustardLover · 24/03/2015 23:18

Erm... What?

Nyborg · 24/03/2015 23:23

I think OP emailed Zoopla about the neighbour's house, not the neighbour.

glittertits · 24/03/2015 23:28

I am confused and intrigued.

FireCanal · 24/03/2015 23:30

Ah, ok, that is indeed less weird than emailing the neighbours Grin

RaphaellaTheSpanishWaterDog · 24/03/2015 23:40

I thought Zoopla valuations as amended by the home owner could only be seen by the home owner themself - that's what our EA told us last year anyway......

Valuations made by Zoopla themselves are dependent on recent sales of similar/identical properties aren't they?

Coumarin · 25/03/2015 04:07

I really wish you'd posted this in AIBU.

BasinHaircut · 25/03/2015 06:37

Eh? Think you are being a tiny bit precious about how wonderful your house is TBH. And of course your neighbours house will be more valuable with an extra bedroom.

NerrSnerr · 25/03/2015 06:57

Do you really give a shit if your neighbours house is worth more than yours? This is really strange behaviour.

Shakey1500 · 25/03/2015 07:04

Sorry but that's hilarious Grin

It's a guide. I'm imaging Zoopla receiving the email and knocking the money off as a joke.

coolaschmoola · 25/03/2015 07:06

Bedrooms add value.

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 25/03/2015 07:15

That is one of the strangest things I've read. You emailed zoopla about this... I think you're a bit obsessed. You know zoopla estimates are a pile of pants don't you?

ZenNudist · 25/03/2015 07:18

This makes me distrust zoopla. I'd only expect to see prices from actual sales. Not estimates from unqualified loons.

A house is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I too think zoopla are having you on.

twirlypoo · 25/03/2015 07:19

I have just genuinely lol'd at this Grin

FuckinArsenic · 25/03/2015 07:20

Oh my word. I thought the school admissions sadists was good. But this is pretty amazing.

This is a multi-tab job.

Higgle · 25/03/2015 07:21

The houses in my road are all valued at about 100k more than they are worth, and there is over 100k difference in the six identical houses in my close. Zoopla valuations are total rubbish. OP if you are this obsessed with the prices of houses in your road you really ned to start a hobby of some kind.

FuckinArsenic · 25/03/2015 07:22

Is Zoopla run by sadists too, maybe?

Lol! Op, you really need to step away from Zoopla.

FuckinArsenic · 25/03/2015 07:26

OTOH, any OP containing Ok it's deffs not the end of the world and I'm overreacting a lot should be encouraged Grin

Floggingmolly · 25/03/2015 07:30

Their valuations are some weird equation based on last selling price, it's nothing even vaguely related to actual market value...
And they have the wrong photo details on ours (it's actually a flat a few streets away!)
I couldn't care less. I'd rather not have randoms virtually snooping round my house as well as checking out the value.

wowfudge · 25/03/2015 07:31

Is this the playground? Some of you need to take a long, hard look at yourselves before making comments about the OP. The reasons she's pissed off are clearly set out.

If it's any consolation OP I've always thought Zoopla valuations were wide of the mark. And they encourage homeowners to correct their crappy data.

TeddyBee · 25/03/2015 07:34

I emailed Zoopla - which is crazy yes, but less crazy than emailing my neighbours, who I'm sure don't care in the slightest.

Obviously I care too much about Zoopla estimates but other people use them, that's what annoys me most of all. Our last surveyor was totally open that he used them to get an idea of the value of our house.

Anyway, from the sounds of things when Zoopla got my email (which they do solicit on their valuation pages) they thought to themselves 'what a loon, let's really yank her chain'. Ok. I can take that. Still going to be grumpy about it.

OP posts:
FuckinArsenic · 25/03/2015 07:39

Well maybe someone there thought and did exactly that. But their manager will (possibly) be less keen on that approach.

It must be annoying.

You could try dialing the intensity down a notch or two, going for a long calming walk and then composing the most reasonable email of protest you can manage? Smile

Jackiebrambles · 25/03/2015 07:40

It is a ruddy cheeky move by Zoopla certainly!
