made to measure curtains or venetian blinds???

We have bought a 4 bed house which is under renovation now.. We need dressings for our windows now and are confused between wooden venetian blinds and curtains. I some how feel made to measure curtains would cost us a fortune. However, since we need fixing curtain poles as well (DH is pretty bad at any DIY stuff :) ), I think our only choice is to go with made to measure curtains. Now I need opinions for a couple of things :
Blinds over curtains??

Any track pole fitting services available (so that I can save some money buying ready curtains)?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Pink,
You can look for a local handyman or joiner who can put up your tracks or poles for a reasonable price.
You can order track and pole online. I find Terry's Fabrics reasonable. Poles and tracks can be cut down to size, so order larger.
Curtains can be bought from eg Dunhelm Mill, IKEA or Terry's fabrics.
It will be cheaper to buy and have them altered locally than to have made to measure.
Measure from the centre of the pole or the top of the track for length and you will need the curtain width to be double the length of the track/pole.
Pull up the width using those string things to just wider than you need and then secure with a knot.

I used to work in a shop many moons ago that sold good ready made curtains and offered a track fitting and hanging service. Perhaps it may be worth seeing if this can be done? occasionally we would get a customer who had a ready made curtain shortened and a track fit and a hang. Department stores often used to offer the same service too.

There is another shop neat me that sell really good curtains second hand, they also do fitting and alteration.

As for the blind over curtain choice, I would have a look on pintrest for ideas and see what you like. Curtains will soak up the noise more, so if you are in a semi with DCs then curtains may be good choice.
