We're getting a new kitchen and with two crazy toddlers and two messy cooks in the family we're looking for kitchen worktops that are basically indestructible. We were thinking about Corian but I've read that it's not very scratchproof so now thinking either dark grey granite or maybe dekton - what do you all think?

One messy cook and two children here, we have pure white silestone, five years on not a scratch, dent or mark on it.

We have ivory fantasy granite and its fab! Can't even see crumbs (of which there are many) on it. Seems totally indestructible too Smile

PurpleDancingTurtle · 14/03/2015 18:26

We have black granite and it's totally indestructible but it does smear really easily. I need to use special granite spray and buff with a micro fibre cloth every time I wipe down, but once I do it looks amazing.

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 14/03/2015 18:29

We also have dark grey/black granite, but it's quite mottled, so hides smears better than the jet black sparkly type. I love it.

We do wipe it over every night with granite spray cleaner, and it looks fab.

We have a grey brown Silestone which is beautiful.

This is ours.

Granite all the way. Utterly bombproof (although not forgiving if you drop something).

I don't bother with special granite spray, but when I wipe it with a wet cloth I always have a dry cloth/tea towel in the other hand and buff it dry as I go. No streaks.

I'm in the south west and can PM you details of my independent kitchen fitter if that's any good? He was fab and our "bespoke" kitchen was cheaper than the Magnet quote we got Smile

Thanks guys, glad to hear people are happy with granite and silestone. Lovely kitchen marmite Smile

Just done our second kitchen with granite - smart and bombproof!

Cheekychip · 15/03/2015 18:27

Love your kitchen too marmite, added the pic to my ideas folder Blush

We are not in the SW though, pity.

Thank you Marmite, We're in the SE sadly...I enjoyed looking at the link though - they did a fab job! I have Magnet coming out next week. Plan to use their drawing and then go to DIY Kitchens! (Although saying that, they've wised up now and don't give you the measurements just an artists impression!)
