How do you stop the kids from scratching/dragging toys over the tiles and leaving marks???

I have only experience of our original dark slate flooring dating from 1772. We get scratches and scrapes all the time...it just kind of disappears over a few days. I guess this may not be helpful if it is new but it will become weathered anyway and there is a kind of charm to that. Sorry if that really is not a help...I think there are some types of oil you can apply (to the tiles, not the children) that can restore depth.

I have the same problem- wish I hadn't picked them! Watching with interest...

If it's real slate, you can use slate oil - in fact I think you should oil it once a year anyway to protect it and restore it's beauty.

I have a slate hearth and oil that, it comes up lovely.
