Replacing Kitchen Cabinet Doors and Gas Hob

We're buying a new house and would like to update the kitchen but not spend a huge amount of money because we have plans to extend and build a much bigger kitchen in a few years time. A few people keep suggesting changing the cabinet doors however if you change the doors they won't match all the end bits and kickboards - does it look funny if you don't replace these parts and if we start having to replace all those parts we might aswell replace the whole lot! Any suggestions?
Also is it possible and quite straight forward to replace a gas hob with a ceramic electric hob?

It would be easy enough to replace end panels and kickboards and still save money.
For some reason the carcasses of a kitchen end up costing the most!

Easy enough to change gas for ceramic. Will just need to have the gas capped and electrician wore in the new one
