Wollaton, Nottingham - nice areas/areas to avoid/decent schools?

We are thinking of upping sticks and moving and this looks like an area that we might possibly be able to afford, and which is near to a hospital for dh's work.

Do any of you know about the schools? We'd need primary to start with then secondary?

Where would be best to try and find a house? Think we'd probably rent to start with.

Wollaton is lovely. Make sure you aren't in the catchment for Sunnyside school. It has a terrible reputation. Beeston fields isn't good either We avoided both when looking for a house.

If you're looking for good schools, Banks road is excellent and feeds into George Spencer which is every good.

It might be worth you looking at Chilwell and Attenborough (lovely nature reserve). Schools are good, meadow lane, round hill, banks road, eakdale and chetwynd road are all there. Also Beeston has the tram (well it will when it's finished) which goes straight into Queens! Good houses around there too.

Thank you - I'll look at the areas you've mentioned, and check the catchments for the two schools you've said. Thank you very much.

No problem. Any other help let me know. Our mortgage advisor is very good if you need one.

Just to add to the areas, Attenborough is nice and quiet and has a villagey feel to it. Chilwell high road has some nice coffee shops, and will be even better once the tram has finished! There are some very desirable roads to live on too. Beeston is ok for a high street, there's a new shopping centre which has just been built. And a big Tesco. Toton where Banks road school is, is a good area for houses. There's a big newish estate by the army barracks which is very safe, some big houses on it.

I don't know what your budget is, wollaton is full of the lovely 1930 type houses but you can also find them in Beeston. Wollaton park is great and has a new play area.
