Double oven with slidy under door thing.

Hi

I have the possibility of buying the 'oven of my dreams' (there's a sentence my 20 year old self would never have said!)

I really fancy one where the door slides under to hide away.

I also want a double oven - space says it can't be 2 next to each other. Needs to be built in - separate hob.

Please help me find one - or recommend a fantastic oven to me.

Ta

I've got a Neff oven with the slidey-under door. Love it.

AesopsMables · 10/03/2015 21:58

I can recommend the one Neff does (not sure if there are any others?)

Really happy with mine, so much so that I am in the middle of a new extension with new kitchen and will be getting the same again. Full size oven with slide under door and combi oven microwave above it.

I cannot attach link as on mac, just google it and you should see the full range. We are going for the highest spec as do not like the new look switches on the entry level one and prefer the higher spec with buttons.

What you really want is an I en where the door flips down but the shelves pull out on wheels. So, you open the door, want to check if something is done or give it a stir so just pull the drawer out (like in a dishwasher), fiddle, and push drawer back in.

Can't remember the make my mum has but by goodness I want one Smile

Thanks.

I've looked at Neff but can't find a double. Would I be better with a single with a combi microwave over?

I need 2 ovens occasionally and more often 1 oven and 1 grill.

Yes I have the single and combi so is more than enough. The combi microwave is a proper oven - really good.

I think what you're looking for is a Neff with 'Slide&Hide' feature. As far as I know they only do that on single ovens, not double ovens. I have two single ovens stacked one on top of the other, the bottom oven has Slide&Hide and I've had it for about 10 years. I absolutely love it, it makes it so much easier to get things in or out, to reach to the very back, to clean.

We decided against a double oven and went for the single Neff oven with a Neff combi oven/microwave/grill above it. That way you can use both to do most things. Price was it worked out not much different to putting two ovens in.

I wanted a double oven with slidey under door but didn't think they exist. Is the grill in the combi micro good enough. Our freestanding one is great as an oven and micro but a crap grill Sad

annedawso · 10/03/2015 22:36

Slide and hide don't exist for double ovens. I have heard Neff are looking at bringing one out but it would only be for the lower oven due to the mechanism required. The new range is due out in April, but don't think it includes double oven yet.
I have ordered a single slide and hide neff with the combo grill microwave above from John Lewis.

Beaverfeaver2 · 10/03/2015 23:16

Neff are the only oven manufacturer that do slide and hide.

It seems to be a bit of a gimmick.

neff are part of the bosh / Siemens group, the top level being Siemens and they don't bother wide slide and hide as a feature.

I have had them fitted in kitchens we have installed recently and customers seem to like the idea but actually, how often is the door left open to make it worth while?

FunMitFlags · 11/03/2015 07:01

I had the Neff one in my last kitchen. I don't rate it. The door broke twice and it wasn't something that I could fix myself (so 6 weeks with no oven thanks to Neff's awful customer service).

The oven also cooked rather unevenly. Fine for most things but very obvious with baking.

I now have a Neff normal oven (came with this house, would never choose one again) and it is a much better oven. We have the microwave combi thing too but only really use it to warm plates.

jarragum · 09/03/2020 22:14

There are 2 reasons that I have always wanted a slide under door. They used to be around 40 years ago but only Neff do them now. First, I want it for easy cleaning. I tried to get to the back wall of my daughter's wall oven and couldn't do it but with the door out of the way, it's easy. 2nd I used to bend the door hinges, leaning on them to clean the oven and that meant the door didn't shut properly anymore, letting heat escape. I could have lifted the door off but I was lazy.

minipie · 09/03/2020 22:21

I have two Neff slide and hide single ovens stacked.

Honestly the slide and hide is less important than I thought - provided the oven is low enough for you to reach in comfortably you don’t really need it. (although it’s a godsend for me in the higher of the two ovens)

bouncydog · 10/03/2020 02:52

just put in a single neff slide and hide with the combi microwave above it. Ours are side by side with a warming drawer and it’s a great set up.

TheSandgroper · 10/03/2020 03:04

I bought an oven and a half with side opening doors as I wasn't prepared to have a drop down door. I have back, neck and wrist issues so wanted the decent ergonomics.

I love it. The half sized oven can cook everything except a turkey or a tagine with a high lid and it takes half the time to heat. I only use the full sized oven on rare occasions.

I also had it set fairly low down, my theory being that if necessary I can sit down to get stuff in and out but I might never manage an oven that was too high.
