When you order packing service, can you just leave in the morning as usual and come back after everything's moved?

I am selling my house. My buyer wants to exchange on the inconvenient dates when either I have 3 family members visiting from abroad, or my partner away. Either way, if I attempt any packing done with two children around, no doubt I will fail. I would prefer to leave for a park/daytrip with my visitors and come back to a packed or empty house.
I don't want to (or, rather, I won't have time with my visitors) spend time uncluttering or wrapping valuables or dismanting wardrobes or uninstalling lightings. I just want everything to be packed and moved, boxes provided for me etc.
This is not to mention that this move is too emotional for me so I just want to painlessly leave the old house and reappear in the new house.

Does such full service exist? Has anyone done it?

I've used a packing service and it's so so so much easier. Go for it.
However, as others have said, they will pack EVERYTHING. I was a bit surprised to unpack the plug from the kitchen sink and the little conditioner drawer from the washing machine that stayed in the flat!

Do you know if they can uninstall the lighting and clear the loft? Would they provide the boxes (on the day/in advance) and then leave them for me at the other end for my perusal? Will they dismantle furniture? From your experience, is it normally one day or two days? By what time of day is standard practice to be out of the house?

If you have a loft ladder and agree it in advance some companies will do the loft.
What do you mean by uninstall lighting? If you mean unplug lamps then yes but if you mean take down fittings then no.
They provide boxes.
You usually aim to be out by midday.

We had the full placing service and went out for the day we moved out of our place - they needed instructions at the start but we weren't needed after that. For unpacking, we weren't around either. Just instructions at the start of the day.

If you're in North London I can tell you who I went with as it was a good service.

Yes, some companies will clear the loft. We had one who did. You can also find companies who will provide a handyman who can do things like plumb the washer and probably move light fittings too. Basically if you're prepared to pay then you will find a company who will do everything you want. It can all be done in one day if you need it to be, you will just have to pay extra to have more people there to pack.

Oh thanks guys. I am still hoping to have an undisrupted day before moving. Not sure if this is possible. And as long as we are out on time, I don't care about the mess in the new house after the move. Some of your made the move sound like a dream!

I am in South London. Any recommendations are welcome. Otherwise I will be using anyvan.com. Hoping to spend up to 2000 pounds. Anyvan quotes came back all below 1000 pounds (some as low as 300) which is hard to believe.

Anyvan is fine, just make sure you pick someone who has been on there for a while and has lots of recommendations. Check they have done similar jobs too and make sure they have enough insurance cover for a full house move.

UniS who did you use? They sound perfect!

UniS · 15/03/2015 20:43

2nd lot wereRedaways Removals.

we also used them for a move only at a later date, when we moved half a mile and they did it in half a day and to collect a piano from a farm house with stepped access half a mile down a lumpy track I did not wish to drive down... Top company, their staff are great, smart, polite and efficient.

Thanks. Will definitely be getting a quote from them Smile
