push-button toilet- water continues running after flush

Does flush, brief pause, then continuous flow of water, which (I think) used to stop eventually. It's still going 10 min after last flush.

I don't see how I get under the cistern cover to investigate further.

the push button thing unscrewed - just use your hand to unscrew it. The valve inside probably needs replacing - they're usually quite cheap to replace. If you're in a hard water area it might just be a bit scaled up. Or it might need adjusting slightly.

I've had this and it was the valve. There are some really good youtube tutorials giving guidance on how to clean the valve or change it. If you are on a water meter, I would sort asap as a running toilet will use a lot of water.

I second the above- look on YouTube, I've had this before and fixed it after watching a tutorials. It's usually quite simple to fix yourself.

We had this and our plumber showed DH how to resolve. Youtube should help. To stop the water though in the short term we found that a short hard burst of water from the cold gap stopped it each time. Stops water waste.

I've just come on to Mn to ask the same, but the lever thingamajig has actually snapped off!!! So the cistern is constantly filling, I've turned the water off as it's been running all day. I can't see a valve its just got cylinders with a counter lever thing that has snapped any ideas pls. TIA
