Flooring for hallway

We are planning on laying wood downstairs but I'm wondering about the hallway with the high footfall traffic - would you lay something else here? Open to ideas :)
Thanks.

We have wood in our hallways with a long sisal type runner. We make sure wet shoes and wet pram wheels are parked on the runner rather than the bare wood, and 18 months on it's bearing up well.

We use Method wood floor cleaner to give it a quick mop everywhere or so (sweep/vac more regularly) and it's just grand.

We have solid bamboo. We had a highly lacquered finish which has scratched slightly (if you get on your hands and knees to check!) but it still looks great, just not brand new. It has been down almost 5 years now and with 3 children and all the rubbish that entails it has held up remarkably well. We don't have a runner or anything, sweep it quite regularly and mop it once in a blue moon. Bounces the light around the hall. Would definitely recommend.

We have porcelain tiles. Wonderful to look at and very practical.

The best flooring is Kardean or Amtico. They are not cheap but are brilliant and hardwearing and look fabulous. I have had Kardean in my Kitchen for over 10 years and it looks the same as it did the day it was laid. You can get lots of style and designs. They do one that looks like wood and you can have decorative borders that you design yourself.

I am having a new kitchen installed so unfortunately I need to have my existing Kardean taken up but I am replacing it with Kardean again in a limestone effect and I am having it in my conservatory. Meant to mention that it is warm and quiet to walk on which is another big plus.

I was all set for Karndean but the bloke came and did a survey and pulled loads of faces. Old house with an uneven floor he said the prep work needed would be more than double the cost.

we're having Quick-step waterproof laminate fitted tomorrow. Looks nice, better than most laminates ive seen. Meant to be hard wearing and waterproof which with incontinent dogs is important for me!

I think its a question of taste, I personally don't like the Kardean or Amtico look but my parents have it (Kardean) and love it. It is very hard wearing and practical.
