Just had a quote for removals and packing for £3500. 3 bed house to 3 bed house. We're not crazy hoarders, and there's nothing non- standard about the houses or our stuff. Moving about 60 miles out of london.
Quote was from pickfords and I expected it to be expensive but that has surprised me. Am getting two more local guys to quote but won't hear back until early next week. Should I prepare myself for the other quotes being similar? I had expected maybe closer to £2k tbh.

That seems steep to me. We paid only a little more for a short-notice 35mile pack and move to a 3bed house, which included the hire of a crane.

The hire of a crane!!!! Grin

TOO EXPENSIVE!!
We moved from a 4 bed in London to a 4 bed in Bexhill, which is 90 miles away. We got a quote from Hobbit Removals for full packing over 2 days, as I just wanted to make sure nothing will be forgotten and I will include everything (they suggested it could be done within 1 day with 4 packers), all the packaging and removal with an HGV truck for £1.600 inc vat!! And this was for like nearly 3 hours distance between each address..I was extremely happy with them and would definitely recommend getting a quote from them and you won't be disappointed in terms of pricing and professionalism!

I've recommended Smile Moves before on here, they are amazing. We moved from a 3 bed, top floor flat in SE5 London to Warrington, Cheshire and paid £800 for the move and £200 for the full picking service. That £200 was the best money I ever spent. We literally walked out of the house intact as if we were going away for the weekend and they packed it all.

We have since recommended them to loads of London friends who have all raved about them. Not a single thing was broken and the guys were just to sweet and lovely.

We also had a quote from a SE London firm called Bridges who came in marginally more expensive, think about £1200 total including the packing. We then had a quote that was about £2.5k. Smile Moves were so professional though, can't imagine what more you would get for an extra £1.5k!

Definitely shop around and good luck with your move.

We used BMSTransport from SW19 - moved 3 bed from Surrey to the northwest very reasonable and good. Had a few friends recommend them too.

Moved last month with James Removals of Kidbrooke on the basis of some reviews here. Moved from E14 to SW6. 3 bed flat, cost about £1200 including packing. They packed the day before, loaded up and unloaded the truck the next day. Packing was excellent and the team was pretty good. Had a small hiccup when they forgot (!) about 7 boxes at the old place. Found out when the porter rang me. But they were good about it, sent another van to pick up the stuff right away and delivered it to me at 8am the next morning. So with some good humour, pleased with the experience.
