Has anyone painted a bath panel?

I would like to paint our panel a dove grey with Fired Earth paint as that corner will be very white with white suite and metro tiles.

Thing is my kids splash (a lot) and water often goes down the panel. Is that going to work in reality?

Yes - we had one painted with satinwood paint in a previous house. It was fine. Don't use emulsion though; it won't stand up to the moisture levels in a bathroom.

Thank you. Silly question: do I need to seal it or does the satinwood do that if that makes sense?

what is the panel made of?

I've painted a wooden bath panel with a few coats of eggshell and it's still going strong over 10 years later.

I don't know yet PG, am to buy it tomorrow. I think most of them are MDF the wood ones? Thank you.

if it is MDF, then for water protection, I think I would paint it like outdoor timber - prime with Aluminium Wood Primer, which is very durable; then an oil-based white or grey undercoat, then a couple of coats of satinwood (I find it easier to keep clean than eggshell)

I would prime the back and especially the edges. Cut it to fit and drill any screw holes before painting. I wouldn't seal it in with silicone as it will be very annoying when you need to get under the bath to attend to taps or waste.

Water based paints are usually fine indoors, but I think an oil paint will shrug off water better, like it would on your front door.

Thank you PG. Another one of your answers copied and pasted! Brilliant, SO grateful.
