I guess now that (fingers crossed) spring is on its way I must face my patio. It's paved but all the cracks started sprouting weeds last summer because the grout has crumbled. It probably isn't called grout if it's exterior..cement?

I'm hoping it will be a straightforward job, but it's utterly new to me, so I'd appreciate any sage advice.

It's called pointing, I think. Grin

You will have to get rid of all the old loose pointing and any weeds. And then repoint it all. You would probably be best to do it in manageable bits.

There is some dry jointing compound on the market whereby you brush it into the gaps then wet it so that it sets but I think its success depends on the type of paving slabs etc.

Good luck!

That dry jointing sounded brilliant, until it said "rarely succesful with riven flags"... Which looked like what I have, ie not flat smooth paving, but more countrified looking.

Pointing! That's what I need, then, to figure out. Thankyou!

Alpha Thank you so much for the link to that site. I need to do some repointing this summer & that site is so clear & helpful.
