How would you find people to do refurb / extension?

We are hoping to move house into a place that needs work.

We are thinking of moving the bathroom and (depending on cost) getting an extension to make the kitchen a bit of a more realistic size and to get more light into it.

We would also want to do carpets and a couple of windows that need replacing.

DH would love to do underfloor heating but I suspect that might be WAY over budget.

Anyway - how would you go about finding people to do some or all of this?

Ours was a friend.

Mention to everyone you know that you want to do this work. Stand back as the tsunami of horror stories rolls past. Ask who they would recommend.

Sorry for confusion - just changed my username.

Thanks meandjulio. Haha yes I will look forward to that tsunami ;)

Would it be a bad idea to post for recommendations on a local parents group on fb?

Not a bad idea at all. I searched check a trade and rated people for builders.

Where do you live? Maybe you could get recommendations here!

Also have a walk round your neighbourhood and work out who has had work done recently - then knock their door as ask about their builder. You also get to meet your neighbours as a bonus.
