Carpet repair - possible?

A friend was staying for a few weeks in our spare room with immaculate new carpet. Her kitten scratched away a patch of the carpet by the door. There are also massive stains, caused I think by mud being walked into the carpet and then badly scrubbed with washing up liquid etc. And it smells of cat litter. Ugh. Anyway she is offering to get the carpet cleaned and repaired, by someone who will take a new piece of carpet and replace (from above) the damaged section. And deep clean to remove stains. Does anyone have any experiences or recommendations? I'm worried it won't really put it right.

Do you have accidental damage cover on your contents insurance? You may be able to get the carpet replaced. The repair will involve cutting away the damaged section and putting in a new piece, using carpet adhesive/tape. As the damage is by the door I wouldn't bank on such a repair wearing very well.

Ask a carpet cleaner for their opinion on getting rid of the marks.

If that were me, I'd want the carpet replacing because of the damage caused by the cat and not wanting to accept a repair in an obvious area when the carpet was new.

You may be covered by accidental damage cover on your insurance. There's highly likely to be a pet damage exclusion though.

If your friend stayed rent free she might consider paying for your carpet to be replaced.

Thankyou. I think we do have pet exclusion plus I don't want to put a claim in; the cat was only allowed stay on the basis that she would pay for any damage. Have got a quote for replacement which is high and going to see how magical the repairs likely to be..
