Hi All, We currently live in tolworth and are looking to move out to Waterlooville / Horndean / etc or the surrounding area's me the and other half plus 2 kids, aged 4 and 3 months. it's not set in stone this area, but we both want to carry on working for the foreseeable future in Epsom so are looking along the A3 corridor I've done the journey a few times for work Portsmouth to Epsom in rush hour and traffic not to bad but really want some views on the area and where is good to live we have a budget of about 300k and ideally want 4 beds, so budget is a constraint. We could do 3 beds if nothing in range / decent area with 4.

My parents live in Horndean now - moved there a few years ago from Petersfield.

I would say Horndean is slightly nicer than the Waterlooville area.

Have you looked into other places such as Clanfield / Petersfield? Petersfield is expensive though! But it is so ideal if you wanted to travel to Epsom.

I'm originally from Southsea, Hampshire - although moved away eight years ago - and imho Waterlooville was always seen as being less naice than Horndean as Joey says. We have friends in Petersfield, which is definitely lovely, but agree it's not cheap and think you may struggle to get 4 beds there on your budget.

Thansk for the reply, Can anyone suggest any other area's I'm looking at Clanfield and petersfield as suggested. petersfield is affordable just upping the budget a little bit, but ideally we would prefer to be closer to the coast (Perfect would be chichester, but commutable)

Chichester is lovely! But I still think Petersfield would be your best bet. A lot of people who live there commute to London. I grew up there and although it has become a lot busier and grown a little more, I still consider it as a lovely place and someday I would perhaps like to retire there!

You have Petersfield Lake which is ideal for walks and its so close to Portsmouth and other places - beach wise you have Hayling Island, The Witterings (Chichester) and Southsea, so getting to the coast wouldn't be a problem.

I know this area well and have to agree with people suggesting Petersfield. It's much the nicest town in the area. Horndean and Clanfield are soulless. Horndean was once a reasonable village which was chopped in half by the building of the A3(M). The old A3 running through it is still too busy a road as well, especially at rush hours, although at least you don't have the brewery traffic there any more. There's a Morrison's but it's on an estate which you have to drive to unless you fancy a miserable windy walk with the pushchair. Not much else in Horndean besides pubs and a windswept children's playground which no one goes to. Waterlooville is a dump, frankly. Anywhere south of Horndean on that A3(M) and the nearer you get to Portsmouth is all dumpsville too.
If I had my time again I'd move heaven and earth to get something in Petersfield rather than anywhere else in that area.

Havent been for years, but Emsworth used to be nice.

I agree HopeClearwater, unfortunately my parents moved away from Petersfield due to a change financial circumstances but I know we all deep down felt the loss and miss it terribly!

They now live in Horndean which isn't too bad but not a lot going on. I still consider Petersfield my home even though I myself, nor my parents live there anymore. It's a great community :-)
