I know of houzz but it's pretty quiet and a bit, I don't know...aspirational?

Have you tried the USA settings for Houzz - much busier !!!

You are best looking by trade. E.g there are busy plumbing, electrics, tiling, plastering forums rather than one for all. Some on MSE too.
