selling old house contents

We are completely refurbishing our house and have ripped out house full of radiators, some ordinary and some rather nice antique towel rails, huge baths with antique taps, various other sanitary ware, old kitchen appliances and furniture we no longer need such as a dresser, pool table and some beds. Haven't got time to sell each individual item on eBay (and taking pictures of them difficult as they are all currently on the building site). Does anyone know of a place that might give us a lump sum for the lot? A reclamation place perhaps or house clearance business? Thanks in advance - any advice gratefully received.

I would search for local reclamation yards to see what they say or otherwise contact a house clearance company - often associated with auctioneers - as they would take it all away, sell anything worth selling and dump the rest. I like the sound of the antique towel rails - shame you haven't got time to put some of them on ebay. Another thought are charities which take furniture away certainly - they might be able to take some of the other stuff as well if it meant they could get some money for it. Where abouts are you?

If you are anywhere near Godalming in Surrey, contact The Meath Trust as they are desperately looking for furniture to paint and sell on. They'd be delighted to hear from you!

Alternatively, suggest an architectural salvage company or house clearance.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?!?!?

I'd take half your stuff off your hands tonight if you're not hilariously far from Essex. All if I could afford it (I can't) Sad

I'd be interested in the antique towel rails etc too......you're not in Staffs by any chance?

Can't offer any other suggestions than those already given......ebay has always been our first port of call when selling (and buying, lol!)......

Hi Amsr

We would definitely be extremely interested in the second bath (one with fluted soap dishes) and have a trusted courier that could collect from you.....any idea how much you'd want for it? It would be perfect for our new project house!

Do you have a local FB page that buys and sells? Whichever area SW17 is, put [SW17] buy & sell into the search bar and you will probably find a local group. You still have to take photos and "manage" replies, but people will come to collect, you can list it for the price you want and you don't have to pay any fees. Our area has 5 or 6 and it is booming!

mandy214 · 16/01/2015 21:36

Should have said the search bar on FB if that wasn't clear!

MadameJulienBaptiste · 16/01/2015 21:40

Omg why are you ripping all that out instead of incorporating it into the refurbishment? House we are buying has original 1905 bathroom suite. We are retiling and re flooring the bathroom in a way that will turn the fab suite into a feature. And I've been saving a salvage towel rail just like yours for years, for just such a project.
but, each to their own....

Dresser is wonderful. You could sell that for £££ on ebay.

Amsr · 17/01/2015 12:09

Raphaella - just getting some advice on prices and will get back to you. Trying to find the time to put the rest on eBay! Thanks for all your advice.
