I am moving house and the owners are taking their giant American ff with them...so have to go shopping! I have always had integrated ones that came with the property, so not sure where to start. I need a free standing one, probably silver. I don't think I need the water feature as the tap water is lovely. But dh wants ice... Also some friends have said they don't like the side by side style, and suggested we get an up and down version iyswim.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

We have a Fisher and Paykel this one and I absolutely love it. The double door opening is fab as you can look at the whole fridge very easily, and the big freezer drawers are great too. It makes ice in a compartment in the freezer drawer.

I think they also do a version without the water dispenser here but it doesn't make ice. I suspect you'll find most fridges either do both ice and water or neither.

The water dispenser in the one we have is very slim so doesn't get in the way of the internal storage iyswim.

second the french door style, we have a GE one in slate and it is has made a huge difference. Previously we had a side by side which I hated the fridge and esp freezer were just too narrow. I got really sick of playing tetris constantly with the contents and forgetting what I had at the back. Now I can see and reach everything. Freezer draw works really well as mine has two internal half drawers, a sub divided main drawer and a little flip down drawer for things like ice packs. water and ice dispeners are brill too

I have a side by side one and I love it! Grin

I guess it depends how wide the side by side is - in mine I couldn't get a frozen pizza or frozen turkey in the freezer for example and with it being deep I was forever taking stuff at the front out or moving around to get to stuff at the back and a few times I tried dragging something from the back which would then knock stuff at the front on the floor so was a nightmare for me. 12 months on I am still thrilled to bits with my french door one.

I guess when you are in the showroom actually picture what it would be like full of stuff and see if you could somehow simulate reaching for things to see how easy it is

Following with interest - I never thought of the French door type, must investigate !

I got a side by side just before Christmas as the seals started to go on the low level separate fridge and freezer. I love the new one, it has glass shelves so you can see everything straight away from bottom to top. The freezer has a light so easy to use.
It also has an alarm if left open more than 90 secs, great with the teenagers, makes a small chime when you open it, also great with teenagers! Sound isn't loud but I know when they are investigating the contents.

I thought silver would take a lot of cleaning but actually I just clean ther handles a few times a week, handles are big enough that no one touches the fridge door.

Liebherr fridge freezers (German) are excellent. They are consistently rated top in terms of quality, build and performance in Which? etc. We have had one for years and are really pleased with it.

The prices are reasonable

I have a Samsung side by side one. I didn't go for the ice machine as it takes up 2 whole shelves in the freezer and on the door part. I would lose a third of the space in the freezer which defeated the purpose of it really!
