Long story but apparently I need one. The path next to our house inclines towards it so need drainage next to the wall.

Anyone heard of this? Any idea what it would cost?

This is interesting. Thanks for posting the link Special Subject. We also need to put a French drain in at the back of our house as we're at the bottom of a hill and the back is paved right up to the wall. I've heard mixed opinions as to whether it should be lined. Does anyone have any thoughts on the pros and cons?

I would line it, the geo textile contains the medium but allows water to pass. The top of the medium should also be covered to prevent the soil/silt getting into your drain and blocking it
