Reducing window size - rough idea of costs?

2015 is going to be the year we get round to redoing our bathroom.

It's a fairly standard UK bathroom size (i.e. small) but the window and door placements mean it's impossible to put in a decent shower. If we could decrease the size of the window, we'd be able to put one in fairly easily. But no idea of costs on this sort of thing.

Anyone got any experience of the costs for this sort of job. Window is currently about 1.2 m wide and we'd be looking at halving that width.

I have just had this done but ours was much more complicated as it involved lintels being taken out and then new ones put in and lots of bricking up. I think for one window it would be a few hundred pounds, including the new window.

Ok, that doesn't sound too bad, and probably worth the effort . We also have the option to move the internal door which is more straightforward but I think moving the window is the better option.

Ooh exciting. Theres sooo much I want doing to mine but hey ho maybe next year?! I have hope!

It depends how high or wide you want to reduce it by and whether theres any building work... Best to know the sizes and then get a quote :-)

This site is good: www.doubleglazingontheweb.com I've recommended them on here before. Good for a rough idea on price.

How did you get on OP?

We have a similar problem in that I want to swap the side the shower goes in ove the bath but the big bloody window is in the way. We would only need to take about 20cm of window off each side. DH thinks it's going to cost too much but it will make the bathroom sooooo much better I think it is worth getting done!
