Its unbelievable what you can get for your money in some parts of France. Its a pity I no way of earning my living in South France.

I read once that the reason so many properties are in ruined state , is that they have to be left to relatives after departing this wonderful world we are blessed to see for a while.

We looked at buying in France (the South) a few years back with the intention of moving there permanently, but decided that whilst we do work from home in a business we could probably carry on over there, it was not for us and we felt it would be too disruptive to DS's education.I think maybe if we'd done it when DS was little it might have worked, but he was fifteen/sixteen at the time and about to move into his (independent) school's sixth form.

I occasionally regret our decision, but if we had done it DS would most likely never have formed a relationship with his GF (at 16) who he is still with nine years on!!!

I am just flabbergasted by the difference in cost between English property and French property. 60 Euros or £50K would not get anything near where I live in England.

I don't think I would want to emmigrate as I would miss my friends too much.

Yes but those houses (only looked at the first one) are absolutely in the middle of nowhere and need everything doing to them. Noone could earn a living or even buy a baguette near there.

If you look at houses anywhere normal, yes, they are cheaper than in the UK but they are still quite expensive. And banks won't lend you more than a certain amount of your salary, and expect a large downpayment.

On the other hand, many people can pay off their mortgages in 15 years.
