Sash window advice

Hi
Have had quotes on sash window restoration

1. To refurbish sashes keeping top sash fixed (currently painted shut) strip paint and draught proof, repair locks pulleys and weights

I would the need to repaint them from inside and get someone to do outside 240 pounds per window not including repainting

1. Repair sashes, strip paint, draught proofing system similar to above only top sash will be moving... They have a system whereby they repair sashes so that they can be taken out/ completely dismantled by myself and repainted whenever I want

390 pounds per window not including painting

Has anyone any experience of sash window system where they can easily be dismantled??

No much help sorry, we had a quote from ventrolla, who were recommended as a refurb specialist, they took one look at them and said that our windows were too far gone to fix so quoted for new, not the cheapest but a good quality

Ours were beyond saving too, I'm afraid. We had seven replaced (in hardwood, painted in F&B) on our front elevation (there were originally nine, but two were blocked up some time during the last 100 years) at a cost of just under £10k earlier this year.

One word of warning if you do have to replace, ensure you choose a FENSA registered company. Ours wasn't and our architect assured us they were covered by the building regs we got for the rest of our alterations. However our buyer's solicitor/lender disagreed and as it was within the 12 month period, we just had to get expensive (£600 inc fees) specialist indemnity insurance......

My DH has refurbed ours using kits bought online. it included cords and draft proofing I think but he did get some weights made up. we did end up with the window boarded up for a while but the advantage was they could be psinted and finished before going back in. not sure how much it cost. I'm sure google will tell you.

We have sashes that are in excellent condition and draught proofing them doesn't completely solve your problem. We find its the single paned glass. The panes are so cold to the touch and there is so much heat loss through them. I have roman blinds at mind so probably not ideal as maybe thick full length curtains would be better.
