Is tap A worth twice as much as tap B? <riviting>

And if so why?

i prefer the look of tap A and i am put off tap B by the review that says the surface finish was damaged after a few months.

but on the face of it they are very similar, and i am on a very very tight budget. has tap A got something special inside that makes it twice as good?

Mmm, I don't know about those two particular taps Pink, but we have friends with showrooms in the bathroom industry and they always advise to buy the best you can afford and to buy solid brass where possible.

I was going to post on your other thread yesterday, but my iPad crashed losing my post! Anyhoo, I was going to say that we chose a brass tap for our lootility room in our current house and didn't match the handles on the butler sink unit we have in there, but instead went for a mix of pewter and dark stained knobs (!!!)......in our next house (completing next Tuesday, whoop!) we will be going for brass taps again (in the kitchen this time) and will again have pewter handles, but I'm still undecided on sockets....

We were fortunate enough to pick up a good quality, brand new (but ok'd discontinued stock) Perrin & Rowe brass kitchen tap on fleabay for £30 a couple of years back, so it might be worth searching there if you haven't already!

Ime of taps with a brass or gold finish, if you use the wrong sort of harsh chemicals to clean them that can definitely affect the finish. That might have happened to the tap purchased from B&Q.

Yes the description says not to use harsh / acidic cleaning stuff. That might be a problem, we've hot very hard water

Tap A is pricier partly because it has ceramic discs which I believe are supposed to be longer lasting and better quality. Quite what they actually do, I don't know! My DH always says taps are worth spending money on and he'll only ever buy ceramic ones.

I think tap A looks like it's actually quite a reasonable price :-)

Afraid I much prefer tap A looks wise, and it's not that expensive... I'd be nervous about going for a cheap kitchen tap given how much use it gets. Ceramic disc too as moon says.

I've ordered both. Will see which looks and feels nicest. Pretty sure tap a will win
