Calling all in Sheffield!

We are living in Canada at the moment and DH has just seen a job he likes the look of in Sheffield. We are from Newcastle/Durham and don't know Sheffield at all. I need some advice, we must live within twenty minutes drive, maximum, from the Northern General Hospital. I am a country girl and want to live in a rural area. Can anyone tell me any areas I can look at that will allow us to live out of the city but still get DH into work on a busy Saturday morning within 20 minutes?
We have two kids 8 and 5 and the move to Canada has been very hard on them. We moved because of DH's work and no one wanted to leave the UK apart from him! I want to make the right choice for them on area and school. I don't think they could take being moved into school in the UK and then be moved again, this really has to be the last time, so would really appreciate any advice you can give?
Thanks

I have neighbours on call at the NG and I live in Dore. LOADS of medics here. Some drive in, some cycle (and I think cycling seems preferable in rush hour if you're fit!). Countryside here is beautiful - Peak District is walkable, schools are good. It's pretty nice. On that budget you'd probably be better looking at Totley, the countryside is the same, the community is lovely.

Wortley, Thurgoland and Penistone are Sheffield post codes and telephone codes but council tax is paid to Barnsley. Lovely villages and cracking schools. Shame you have to be only 20 minutes away.

Thank you flyme I thought I was a lone voice there. Penistone is a Barnsley phone number, but the address is listed as a Sheffield address.

Thanks Dustydog! I have to say that I would go back to every single area that people have listed here in a flash. Sheffield is a great city, especially if you like the countryside but aren't prepared to give up on the shopping Wink.

Perhaps get DH to have a chat with medical staffing and find out what the local response times are?

I live on the south west. It's all on the edge of the country, but not quite in the country. They all live round here! Nether Green, Fulwood, Whirlpw, Lodge Moor, Crosspool. All on the edge of the countryside. fantastic school too. In fact wasn't one of the local ones Was Comprehensive of The year, in the last week or so

Sorry for typos....

Back from getting the kids. Wow, thank you all so much for all your suggestions. At least I have something to work with now.

Dore and Fulwood are lovely and very popular with medics.

I'd look at s10, we're in crookes and my DH regularly commuted to a college that's pretty much next door to the NGH and it used to take him on average 20 mins. There's a new housing development going in built by Taylor wimpy which is between broomhill/crookes, they look nice. I think you might be worth renting and seeing how the commute/on call goes.

schools in s10 are good both state and private depending on which you fancy. It's also great as you're over looking the countryside but 10 mins into the city. This is my view.
