coloured splashbacks - yay or nay?

we need a splashback above the hob and I have been wondering about purple glass. kitchen is white and oak with cream walls and other colours around.

but I'm wondering if it is too high trend, which isn't really my thing. long lasting and timeless is more my approach.

any thoughts?

does anyone care?

Sounds nice - probably pretty easy to change if you needed to too.

If you like purple, forget on trend & have it. I adore purple, have a light oak & white gloss handles kitchen going in next week with a deep plum purple glass splashback. I couldn't be less worried about how unfashionable it will be in a year or so because it will make my heart sing every time I see it.

I have an olive green glass one above my hob. Absolutely love it. It tones in with the decor and is the first thing people comment on when they come into the kitchen! Glass is really easy to keep clean too.

I wouldn't, it then again I think purple is a bedroom colour. There's no law that says you can't have your kitchen a colour you like.

I'd pick up the purple theme elsewhere, blinds and wall decorations, tea towels and chair cushions, perhaps.

Your kitchen sounds fairly neutral so something to give character would be good.

As you already have colour elsewhere keep the backsplash fairy neutral. If you want colour go for something that picks up on the oak. Purple will date your kitchen.

If it's just above the cooker rather than all the way along, then I'd say do it. It will be fairly easy for you/future buyer to replace in future.

Make sure you really love the colour though as it will be a feature that will draw the eye (oh and that means you'll need to keep it properly clean too!)
