We have a new boiler and thermostat. DH wanted to know why I chose the Honeywell CM907 and looked a bit bemused when I said because PigletJohn said so.. :-)

Basically
Clean your filter, seal and drawer
Check the standpipe
Ditch laundry liquid and use powder instead
Run some hot washes or service washes

I persuaded DH to follow PJ's suggestion re a new syphon for our toilet. It helped that it was Screwfix.
All happy here.

Thanks to PigletJohn, I'm putting in a megaflo and have now become very picky about effective extractor fans for the new house.

Apatite, me too!

Also insulated under floor, between floors, loft per PJ'S instructions (have had to bring builder round to PJ'S way of thinking v gently, but I've done it!) & stopped the plaster being pva'd, got the right honeywell doodah. .. honestly, PigletJohn is my building consultant! I would have been happy to pay for his advice, but having thought about it, I'm going to give a donation to charity as a thank you for heading off so many problems. He may or may not be bothered but I am very grateful for the avoidance of unnecessary problems on the second biggest expense of my life.

PS I have always double checked his advice and it's always been right - but I would have been oblivious to the pitfalls if he hadn't pointed them out!

Do we know for a fact that Piglet John is a man? No reasons why "he" shouldn't be a woman?

Oh I had to go an look at my new Thermostat.....and its a PJ approved one, and I managed to choose it all by myself well told the plumber what I wanted

I am loving it, well as much as you can love a themostat, which at the moment having been CH free for a few months is a lot

I wonder if PJ can sort out my smelly dishwasher?

And where was the advice about loft insulation? We need that!!

Although I was (smug) offered a job as a plumbers apprentice this week - and he was only joking a little (I plumbed in my own tap...)

It's funny though how proud we all are of all these practical things that we were all taught to avoid with a bargepole at school!! I'm planning on making sure DD can do practical things herself (maybe not electrics or gas)...might even apprentice her to the builders in the family when she is older!
